Poste San Marino celebrates the Military and Police Corps with a series of silver coins in proof

On 25 July the first 10-euro coin is dedicated to the Guard of Rocca
The issues will feature coloured inserts for the soldiers’ uniforms

SAN MARINO, 22 July 2024 – The Philatelic and Numismatic Division of the San Marino Postal Service has decided to dedicate a new series of 10-euro silver proof coins to the Military and Police Corps of the Republic of San Marino. On 25 July, it will issue a coin dedicated to the Guardia di Rocca. A special feature of this series is the application of coloured details to enrich and embellish the uniforms of the soldiers depicted on the reverse of the coin.
The Guardia di Rocca, established as a “Relief Squad” on 26 May 1754, is now split into the professional police corps, the Uniformed Core, and the volunteer-based Artillery Corps. The task of the Uniformed Core is to enforce the laws, ensure the surveillance of the borders, the Public Palace and the institutional premises. It is involved in the prevention and suppression of crime, the protection of public order and safety, customs, currency as well as financial laws. It provides assistance in the event of disasters and accidents. The volunteer corps of the Artillery Corps has the primary task of providing blank firing of cannons and parade services during national holidays or on the occasion of visits by foreign Heads of State, in accordance with long-standing military protocols.
The 10-euro coin, made of 925 ‰ silver in proof, will weigh 22 g and have a diameter of 34 mm. The obverse depicts the coat of arms of the Republic of San Marino, a design by Antonella Napolione, while the reverse depicts a Guardia di Rocca in full uniform, with the colour green applied to his jacket and red to some feathers on his hat, collar, jacket cuffs and trousers. The coin is completed at the top by the inscription “GUARDIA DI ROCCA”, on the left the name of the designer “A. NAPOLIONE” and the value 10 EURO, on the right the letter R, identifying the Mint of Rome, the year of issue “2024” and at the bottom the initials of Antonio Vecchio, who supervised the engraving, AV.INC.
It will be available as of 25 July 2024 at www.dfn.sm.
