Four stamps for as many entities linked by sport, tourism and recreational flying
SAN MARINO, 14 June 2024 – The Associazione Città dell’aria (Association of the City of Air), established in 2021, brings together Italian municipalities linked to the aeronautical sector by history, culture, sport or economy, to encourage the development of recreational and sports flying, in order to promote tourism and the region. At the request of the Secretariat of State for Tourism, the Republic of San Marino is dedicating a postal issue to this project. San Marino, through its Aeroclub, was the second signatory of “City of Air”. A project that aims to identify and define the role small airports, airfields and flying fields can play to promote tourism and the territory. San Marino intends to develop flight tourism, a project to improve the runway of the Torraccia airfield has already been approved.
This postal series involved the Aeroclub San Marino, the Aero Club d’Italia, the Piloti di Classe association, and the municipalities of Castiglione del Lago, Magione, and Passignano sul Trasimeno.
The four values of 1.25 euro were created.
The first stamp depicts the illustration of an aeroplane in flight, the First Tower in the background and at the bottom the logo of the Aeroclub San Marino (to complete the value “1.25”, “San Marino”, the Coat of Arms of the Republic, the legend “Città dell’aria: Aeroclub San Marino”, the name of the designer and the year 2024). The second value shows an illustration of a hydroplane in flight over Lake Trasimeno, at the bottom the coats of arms of the Municipalities of Castiglione del Lago, Magione and Passignano sul Trasimeno (to complete the value “1.25”, “San Marino”, the Coat of Arms of the Republic, the legend “Città dell’aria: Castiglione del Lago, Magione, Passignano sul Trasimeno”, the designer’s name and the year 2024).
The third stamp depicts an illustration of an aeroplane in flight over the Italian peninsula and at the bottom the logo of Piloti di Classe (to complete the value “1.25”, “San Marino”, the Coat of Arms of the Republic, the legend “Città dell’aria: Piloti di Classe”, the name of the designer and the year 2024).
The fourth value depicts a view of an Italian plain being flown over by an aircraft and at the bottom the logo of the Aero Club d’Italia (to complete the value “1.25”, “San Marino”, the Coat of Arms of the Republic, the legend “Città dell’aria: Aero Club d’Italia”, the name of the designer and the year 2024).
The band on the left of the sheet bears the legend “Città dell’aria”, a short text on the City of Air project, the logo of the City of Air Association and the QR code.
