The Philatelic and Numismatic Office of San Marino issues a divisional series with both 2 euro commemorative coins in proof version. The first commemorative coin is dedicated to Giotto, one of the greatest Italian painters, initiator of a new style of Italian figurative art and model for Renaissance artists. The frescoes of the Basilica of Assisi depicting the Stories of San Francesco, the Cross of Santa Maria Novella in Florence, the frescoes of the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua and those of the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence are among his most famous works.
The second commemorative coin is dedicated to sustainable tourism. The concept of sustainable tourism refers to a way of travelling that is respectful of the planet, does not alter the natural, social and artistic environment, and does not hinder the development of other social and economic activities.
