The 2 euro cent coins of the Republic of San Marino since 2017 depict Porta San Francesco, the most famous gateway of the city walls, popularly referred to as 'Porta del Paese'. Built in 1361, but radically transformed in 1451 with the construction of an anti-door and an elevated crenellated tower, under the archway the Gate holds, among other things, a graffito inscription on the rules of entry and exit from the fortified city.
