Botanica Mirabilis

The images on the stamps were drawn from a precious volume, kept in the Antique Collection of the San Marino State Library, "Discorsi di Pietro Andrea Mattioli sull'opera del Dioscoride" (1604), i.e. the first edition in botanical history of a herbarium that was translated from Latin into the vernacular language. This emission touches upon the subject of the needed awareness towards the environment and the appreciation of unique aspects and unusual locations within our territory, which marked the six months regency of the Heads of State of the Republic of San Marino, namely Alessandro Scarano and Adele Tonnini.
