The Philatelic and Numismatic Division of the San Marino Post Office has prepared a special set, which contains the eight denominations of the divisional coins and two commemorative 2-euro coins of the year 2024, all in a special proof edition. The commemorative 2-euro coins are to mark “the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Citizens’ Rights and Fundamental Principles of San Marino Law” and the “530th anniversary of the death of Ghirlandaio”. The obverse and reverse of the coins for the 8 denominations (2 euro, 1 euro, 50 cent, 20 cent, 10 cent, 5 cent, 2 cent, 1 cent) are the same as the coins currently in circulation. The first commemorative coin bears on the obverse an open book with the inscription “I DIRITTI DELLA PERSONA UMANA SONO INVIOLABILI” (THE RIGHTS OF HUMANKIND ARE INVIOLABLE) a phrase taken from Article 5 of Law No. 59 of 8 July 1974. Completing the coin are the silhouettes of the Statue of Liberty and the Palazzo Pubblico and the inscription SAN MARINO. The second commemorative coin shows on its obverse a detail from the Adoration of the Shepherds housed in the Sassetti Chapel in the Basilica of Santa Trinita in Florence.
