The souvenir sheet shows the link between Japan and San Marino, land of peace and freedom, through the
presence in San Marin of the first and only official Shinto Temple in Europe, the “San Marino Jinja”. The temple
was inaugurated on the 22nd of June 2014, in memory of the thousands of victims of the Great Tōhoku
Earthquake which occurred on the 11th March 2011 in eastern Japan. The monument consists of a white Torii, a traditional Japanese gateway, and of a Jinja, the small wooden sanctuary.
