10th Anniversary of the death of Renata Tebaldi

The philatelic triptych dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the death of Renata Tebaldi celebrates the illustrious soprano with a solemn and vivid composition in an velvety atmosphere and a sheet music on the background. The stamps show in the foreground the bright Italian singer and the National theatres particularly significant for her career: La Scala in Milan, where she made her debut in 1946 at the reopening concert after the rebuilding and the San Carlo in Naples, whose audience had a constant preference for her and she was awarded a gold medal for the extraordinary performance of Traviata by Verdi in 1951. These theatres are depicted on the € 0.70 and 3.60 values, while the € 2.50 stamp shows the Titano Theatre, the most important theatre of the Republic of San Marino, the “extraordinary country” where she spent her last years and she passed away on the 19th December 2004, at the age of 82. Ten years after, the Republic celebrates her as an artist and a woman, with a travel of images through the sites of her human and professional story, her beauty, her costumes, her spontaneous smile: the little “coloured sheet music” of her life, which still resounds in the heart of the past and present audience.
