Proof Divisional Coin Set 2019 with a 2€ commemorative coin dedicated to the “500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci” and a 2€ commemorative coin dedicated to the “550th anniversary of the death of Filippo Lippi”
Coinage: I.P.Z.S., Roma.
The Ufficio Filatelico e Numismatico of San Marino issues a divisional coin set with two 2€ commemorative coins in proof finishing. The first 2€ commemorative coin is dedicated to Leonardo, the Renaissance genius who revolutionized both the figurative arts and the history of thought and science. His areas of interest included painting, sculpting, architecture, science, engineering, literature, anatomy and invention. The obverse of the 2 euro coin depicts the face of the kneeling angel while supporting the garment of Jesus, a detail from the work "Baptism of Christ". The painting was finished in 1475 in the studio of the Italian Renaissance painter Andrea del Verrocchio and generally ascribed to him and his pupil Leonardo da Vinci. The second 2€ commemorative coin celebrates Filippo Lippi, one of the leading painters of the artistic renovation of the 15th Century Florence because of the freedom and expressive immediacy of his style. The obverse of the 2€ coin depicts the Virgin Mary contemplating Jesus who spreads his arms towards her, a detail of the famous altarpiece “Madonna and Child with Two Angels”, painted between 1460 and 1465.
