Nordic World Ski Championships 2013

A competition series that the Azienda Autonoma di Stato Filatelia e Numismatica this year dedicates to the Nordic World Ski Championship in Val di Fiemme, now in its forty-ninth edition. The sheet, edited by Stefania Saragoni, leads immediately into the atmosphere of the Trentino event. Stylised images, with close-ups of boots and skis, counterbalance the white of the snow that seems to envelop the entire sheet. The vignette symbolically offers a foretaste of the event, which from 20 February to 3 March 2013 was staged in the cross-country skiing stadium in Lago di Tesero and on the ski jumps in Predazzo. Nordic combined, ski jumping, cross-country, men's and women's competitions and, for this edition, also a mixed team competition. The sketch drawn by the San Marino author, thanks to a judicious use of colours, but at the same time, particularly captivating in the game of contrast, is capable of guiding even the least expert observer inside an event capable of involving more than sixty countries.
