Giorgio Morandi (Bologna 1890-1964) holds a key position in the panorama of twentieth-century Italian painting. After a meteoric approach with Italian Futurism and an early interest in metaphysical painting, Morandi started a personal artistic quest, exploring in depth the seemingly obsolete genre of still life. Until the end of his existence, he conferred life and beauty on inanimate objects, with a style that defies all attempts at classification, so refined, skilful and varied that it was recognized by critics of Italian and international markets.
